LIONS PARADISE

Mixed media on canvas 36″ X 36″.  Artist was inspired by a trip to Africa.  She had an opportunity to get very close to wild life and get real close to these magnificent creatures.  The sensation of getting very close to real lions is indescribable. It’s a mixture of fear and respect.  Lions are nocturnal creatures because they go hunting at night; however, many ancient cultures have described them as solar creatures.  Curiously, the lioness was considered a lunar animal. In the Greek mythology lions were symbolized for their personal beauty, strength and power. Also, they have been considered a symbol of royalty, dignity, authority, justice and wisdom. In Hinduism the lion is an avatar while in Buddhism the Buddha sits upon the lion. In England the lions is a sign of sovereignty. In the zodiac the lion is a symbol of intuition and self-confidence.
