CUBAN PARADISE
Canvas 24X36″ mixed media
The piece is entitled Cuban Paradise because it reflects Cuban pride. Despite the difficulties that Cuban nationals face, they are proud of what they have and of what they do.
The artist inspiration for this work was the result of social interactions with Cuban culture and its people.
This picture represents three Cuban elements. First is the subject who is a Cuban national.
The second element is a Cuban cigar–the country’s best-known export. According to Cigar Aficionado, cigars are to Cuba as Champagne is to France. What makes Cuban cigars a premier product begins with the soil. Cuba’s particular micro climate in the most western part of the island effects it’s soil, similar to France.
Third element is a Mojito–the world’s first cocktail–held in the figure’s right hand. A Mojito is a Rum-based cocktail containing mint, lime and sugar cane syrup. Originally, mojitos went by the name El Draque because it was considered a medicinal beverage that was prescribed to ward off disease.
